How To Get Involved
If you are interested in volunteering, please e-mail kelly@thecostofcouragefoundation.org.
There are many ways to support The Cost of Courage Foundation and the Veterans we serve:
Mobile Family Pantry - Packaging Events
Every November, we sponsor a Care Packaging Day where all of the items we collect during our holiday care package drive are boxed to ship overseas. We package and personalize each box so that our recipients know how much we support them! We are always looking for willing volunteers to assist in boxing the care packages, sorting care package items and filling out customs forms and address labels! There truly is a task for everyone, regardless of skill or physical capabilities!
We appreciate any form of participation!

The Cost of Courage Foundation sponsors an Emergency Support Program for Military Service Members, Veterans and their families. To those who apply for the program and demonstrate urgent need, we will send a box of groceries containing food and personal care items or a commissary gift card, depending on the request. So that we may fulfill these requests as quickly as possible, we now maintain a pantry where emergency support items are stored. Maintenance of the pantry requires constant organization and packaging of the aid packages we send to Veterans and service members in need throughout the United States and internationally.
We always appreciate assistance from those willing to lend a hand! Opportunities to organize the pantry and package boxes are always available!
Additionally, individuals and companies are always welcome to sponsor a collection of items or donations to our shipping fund if interested! For information on how to make a donation, please visit our Military and Veteran Emergency Support Program Page or our Donate Page! To volunteer, please e-mail volunteer@thecostofcouragefoundation.org.

Volunteer of the Year 2017
While we value and appreciate all of our volunteers, every year we like to recognize the contributions of the individual who goes above and beyond for our organization and whose help directly impacted our ability to meet our goals and help our community.
We are proud to announce Bill “Papa” Estes as our Volunteer of the Year for his support in 2017. This is the second consecutive year Papa has earned this award and boy did he earn it once again with everything we had going on this year!
At 91 years old, Papa takes his role as a volunteer very seriously. This year, he has spent countless hours making over 350 care package cards that we placed in the gift baskets we brought to wounded, ill and injured service members at the Warrior Hope and Care Center at Camp Pendleton and Naval Medical Center San Diego, he made over 500 friendship bracelets and over 100 keepsake holiday ornaments that we will be sending in care package boxes to units deployed overseas this holiday season.
He attends and helps patients and family members with their projects at the monthly patient and family art classes we sponsor at the Palo Alto VA Hospital’s Polytrauma Rehabilitation Center and the kids at Fisher House always look forward to seeing him. He is always eager to get started and inspires other volunteers to work harder everyday! Papa is present at every event and helps out whenever and however he can.
He helped run the merchandise table at our Celebrity Bartender Event in September and helped distribute toys to children at Moffett Field in support of the Emergency Aid Program we recently launched. He was instrumental in starting a care package drive at his Senior Center and is always getting the word out about the organization so that more Veterans in the community can take advantage of our programs.
Thank you so much for all you do, Papa! We couldn’t do it without you and we love you!
